Our Story Over its first 100 years, the founding mission of the Mississippi State University Department of Agricultural Economics has remained consistent: to assist the state, nation, and world in the understanding and application of economic principles.

Established first as the Department of Markets and Rural Economics in 1913, the department is the fourth oldest among the College of Agriculture's degree-awarding entities.

Today, the department hosts faculty members with experience from around the world. Rooted in tradition, with an eye set towards the future. Read more about our history here.
